The International Press Academy announced its movie and TV nominations, and proves once again to be on the cutting edge of the entertainment industry.
Media around the world have repeated the nominees, and the awards season has kicked off into high gear. What have the broadcast, Internet and print reviewers at the IPA picked?
In the movies section, Michael Keaton’s revival role in “Birdman” is receiving much praise, and garnered the most nominations, at 10, including Best Actor for Keaton, Best Picture, Best supporting actress for Emma Stone and Best Supporting actor for Edward Norton.
The team from “Imitation Game” were so thrilled with their eight nominations that they Tweeted out their honors only minutes after the IPA announcements.
“Boyhood,” “Gone Girl,” “Whiplash,” “Selma” and the not-yet-released “Into the Woods” received multiple nominations.
As IPA president Mirjana Van Blaricom explained to The Hollywood Reporter, (link: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/international-press-academy-reveals-nominees-752876) members see films that may not specifically be shown for IPA members, like “Into the Woods,” but Universal Studios didn’t make Angelina Jolie’s pet project “Unbroken” available for screening, so it is absent from the nominees.
In a rare instance, actor Mark Ruffalo is nominated in both the Movies and Television categories, getting a Supporting Actor nod for “Foxcatcher,” as well as a Best Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for TV for “The Normal Heart.”
“The Knick,” “Fargo,” “Penny Dreadful” and “Orange is the New Black” (available only on Netflix) were big nominees in the TV categories. Check out the site for the full list.
