Los Angeles, CA – When the International Press Academy (IPA) honored publicist Brian Edwards with a special Satellite Award at a private ceremony on May 2, 2012, hosted by Cindy Crawford, the moving words by Whoopi Goldberg, Joan Rivers, and many other long-time friends and clients on the IPA Tribute Reel were framed by the words of Donna Summer. While Vanessa Williams sang a cappella live at the event, and narrated the tribute reel, it was Donna Summer who helped shape his career in the business to what it is today.
IPA remembers the singular talent of Donna Summer, who passed away this morning, and shares the words of Brian Edwards:
“My relationship with Donna Summer began 30 years ago while I was still in high school. I ran the Official Fan Club Chapter for Louisiana. I got my first industry job working as one of Donna’s assistants while I was a college student. From there, I went on to handle special projects and bookings on her behalf, then for the past 9 years or so, I have had the privilege of being her personal PR Client Relations rep.”
“I owe a great deal to Donna, not only was she like my big sister, she was a close friend and someone who cared a great deal about me as I did her as well. She helped put me through college, and gave me opportunities to prove myself within the industry at an early age. Words cannot express my heartfelt feelings for her and how saddened I am by her passing.”
Only two other publicists have been honored with the Honorary Satellite Award for a Career of Outstanding Service in the Entertainment Industry. Honorees include Murray Weissman and Dale Olson.
