ABOUT THE IPA

Founded in 1996 by Mirjana Van Blaricom, The International Press Academy (IPA) has grown to be both the largest and most diverse association of professional entertainment journalists in the world. With a membership of working press representing both domestic and foreign markets, the IPA reaches more than 500 million people globally via major print, television, radio, cable, new media outlets, and the Internet.

Our primary mission is to find common ground and equitable competition among all artists throughout the world whose aim is to entertain, enrich and enlighten, regardless of their chosen medium.

Unlike other press organizations, the IPA cordially extends invitations to all full-time  entertainment journalists throughout the world. Accordingly, the IPA is acknowledged to be the first organization to recognize the contributions of the interactive industry alongside those of film and television.

The IPA was the first organization to recognize the field of New Media, forecasting a bright future for the burgeoning art form since 1997. It should be noted that other major organizations have subsequently added this category as well.

Upholding the organization's creed, the IPA’s annual SATELLITE™ Awards gala honors the most outstanding achievements in the fields of cinema, television and interactive medias.

One of the primary goals of The SATELLITE™ Awards show is to celebrate new works from both established and developing independent filmmakers, giving them access to an audience that would otherwise never receive exposure to their creativity.

Alongside the traditional studio fare, the IPA highlights films made by such

companies as Lion’s Gate, Fine Line, Sony, and Fox Searchlight, to the newest international films, honoring cinema from around the globe, including Australia, China, New Zealand, Great Britain, Eastern Europe, Asia, South America and Africa.

In addition to film, The SATELLITE™ Awards gala celebrates the most innovative offerings in television, both network and cable, in addition to the vanguard of interactive arts. Speed, pacing and innovation are the operative words, allowing us to celebrate technical as well as artistic achievements.

The aim of The SATELLITE™ Awards event is to reach beyond the traditional, elite markets of Los Angeles, New York and Chicago into metropolitan centers with a taste for alternative culture, especially those with multi-dimensional theater complexes that feature foreign and independently produced movies. This would include such key markets as San Francisco, Santa Fe, Boston, Seattle, Miami, Aspen, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Austin, Minneapolis and New Orleans, to name a few.

IPA: Our Mission Statement

The International Press Academy (IPA) is one of the largest professional entertainment media associations with a membership of domestic and foreign journalists. Members of the IPA report for virtually every major entertainment news outlet worldwide, from broadcast, radio and print, to news outlets online.

The IPA is a collective body of entertainment journalists who are united in their dedication to, and knowledge of, Cinema, Television and the Interactive Arts.

What We Do...

- Each year the IPA honors artistic excellence in the areas of Motion Pictures, Television, Radio and New Media via the SATELLITE™ Awards.

- As the first press organization to give equal artistic recognition to film, television and New Media, the IPA continues to establish new parameters for Artistic Achievement in digital arts and gaming.

- The IPA was the originator of separate award categories for animated and multimedia pictures, acknowledging the true artistry of this new filmmaking genre.

- Education and growth of new talent through the development of internships and hands-on opportunities within the IPA is a priority of our organization.

- The IPA supports the world of digital motion pictures and Visual Effects.

- The IPA publicizes the entertainment industry through both the SATELLITE™ Awards presentation and its membership, which is comprised of established, well-known journalists, anchors and media personalities.

- The IPA supports the global digital community of freelance writers, entertainers, artists, consumers, and journalists by emphasizing their common interests and shared goals whenever possible.
